Hi I’m Wally. An up-and-coming production designer, raised in Toronto, currently based out of Berlin.
A 90s kids, who's seen it allThough my academic knowledge of storytelling stems primarily from my formal education and teaching of history and literature, my fascination with the unique power of storytelling began at a much earlier age in front of the silver screen.
As a turn-of-the-century kid, even with all the hours I spent climbing trees and partaking in extra curricular activities, I always made time to indulge in the ritual of setting myself in front of the TV. devouring (without prejudice) anything and everything our family television had to offer. At the tail end of a time when the equivalent to "mindless scrolling" meant flicking through the channels, viewer gratification wasn’t so instant, but rather earned through patience and commitment, Patience in accepting whatever films and shows were shown to us that fit into our schedules, and commitment of our time and analytical skills in deciphering (often mid-story) whether to stick with it, or change the channel. And while flicking through channels, even back then, was part of the viewer experience, the impulse to give into it was often countered by the commitment we already invested to a story. And seeing as time was on side, so began my love affair with the screen. |

when actual storytelling prevailed on While I now, as a grown up, have a better grasp on the many departments that contribute to the success of the medium as a whole, even back then I was already acutely aware and in awe of the army of talented women and men that made up a movie’s art department. Because to me the only thing better than watching a great movie, was to watch the making of that movie right after. Because prior to astonishing developments in CGI, it was the traditional art department that often went to the greatest lengths to materialize a storyteller’s vision.
